One year ago my daughter Mandy was in Afghanistan.
10 years ago today I was lying on a hospital bed having open heart surgery.
I constantly am surprised at the big picture God has and how narrow my view is. I remember a story from one of the very first books Max Lucado ever wrote. An older man was a farmer in the hill country of Brazil and war broke out. His son was drafted by the army to join the fighting. The village gathered around the man and lamented this terrible news about his son going off to war.
The man replied, “Good news or bad…I don’t know…all I know is my son is off to war”
A year later the man’s son returned unharmed. The village gathered around the family to celebrate the return of the son.
The man replied, “Good news or bad…I don’t know…all I know is my son is back from war”
10 years ago I was given a 30% chance of not waking up. Seemed like a bad day. Mandy’s friends in Afghanistan are in danger. Seems like a very very bad day.
All I know is the more anniversaries you have of something, the wider the view. The wider the view, the better the perspective. They say time heals wounds…and that’s how. Time and anniversaries widen the view.
