Peace…

Casey, Mighty Casey…did not strike out.

Talked to Casey Martin today. He was beyond kind with his time and his honesty. First of all, to honor him and what he’s going through….

In October, what he had dreaded his whole life happened. He stepped off a curb and his bad leg broke. The fear with his condition of bad blood flow in that leg was that if that ever happened, the leg would not be able to heal and he would have to amputate it. He’s been on crutches since October. Normally a broken bone fully heals in 3 months. It’s been 9. He has since been fitted with a new kind of cast and just this week got some “good” news and it’s possible the leg is healing. Possible. His leg hurts. A lot.

We talked a lot about purpose. He said he came to peace with it in college when someone pointed out to him a passage in scripture.

Jesus disciples asked, “Why was the man born blind? Was it his sin, the sins of his father?” Jesus answered, “Neither his man nor his parents are the reason. He was born blind to glorify God”

That’s when Casey came to terms with what he was born with.

to be continued…
