I had written recently about Niles Crane from the sitcom Frasier cracking up after a very stressful event. He ordered a coffee and wanted a straw to stir cream in and they didn’t have any more straws. “The last straw”. He cracked and ended up naked in the coffee shop reading a newspaper.
So the question to my daughters today was…what would you do if that happened to me? π Mandy quickly said, “I would not be able to get out of that coffee shop fast enough”. AJ quickly said, “I would absolutely tell everyone to back off and I would protect you”.
It was a pretty funny discussion. Then I thought…what would cause me to disown my daughters? Nothing. The question itself is absurd. At least to me. There just isn’t anything.
Then I wondered…is there anything that would cause my daughters to disown me? Apparently there is. π
I did some pretty bad things when I was a kid. I once stole a guys wallet, used the cash and credit cards, then took the wallet back and got a reward for finding it. Not a great kid. In fact, multiple felonies. And my parents never disowned me for those things.
Today my heart really acted up in public with AJ and Mandy there.
In Romans Paul actually asks the question…”what can separate us from the love of God?” Why would he ask that? Why wouldn’t he just say “nothing can separate us” versus asking the question.
Because we all wonder…is there something we could do or is there a secret that would be found out that would cause people to disown us? We all wonder.
I love that AJ said that. Her instinct is so others focused π
Just to clear the air, I would never disown you. Naked in a coffee shop or not.
